This month I am thinking about celebrating success.
On 5th November we have our County Awards afternoon when those young people that have achieved their Gold or higher Chief Scouts Award or Duke of Edinburgh Awards are invited to attend. We also recognise leaders who have received Good Service Awards. Congratulations to them all.
This year for the first time we are also recognising Groups who are developing Scouting in the County. The categories are Community Involvement, Youth Involvement, Inclusion and Growth. We have been amazed by the variety of the nominations for these awards – there are lots of good things happening around the County. They don’t have to be grand gestures to make a difference, every small action counts.
This lead me to think about how much we recognise Scouting. I am sure that we all appreciate it when a young person or a parent says, “thank you”. Do we remember to thank those who help us, our leaders and helpers? We like to be thanked, let’s make sure that we thank people.
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” JFK
Many thanks for all that you do for Scouting.
