Fun in the Sun
2000 young people and more than 500 adult leaders had a weekend of fun and adventure at the 5 District Centenary Camp at Charlecote Park. They came in the end from six districts: Rugby, Warwick, Leamington, Kenilworth Stratford and Nuneaton.
The sun shone on a host of activities including climbing, abseiling, straw-bale-caving, canoeing, laser quest, rifle shooting, archery and circus skills. Then there was the bungy-running, a bewildering variety of inflatables to bounce on and human table football! In traditional scouting style there were rafts, bridges and catapults being built and inevitably a swing to get across the mud, or possibly to land in it.
There was a craft market and a range of smaller activities to ensure that no-one was left with nothing to do.
Visitors
Beaver scouts joined their older scouting brothers and sisters for the day on the Saturday - a day described by one Beaver as "The best day of my life!" Other visitors on Saturday included the Mayors of Warwick and Rugby who were so caught up in the action that they stayed hours longer than they originally intended. Chief Commissioiner for England (North), John Asplin looked for the afternoon and clearly enjoyed himself.
Well Done
Congratulations to the planning team for a job well done, and a special mention for the District Commissioners of Warwick and Rugby, Ian Carter and Tony Marsella who were at the forefront of the project.
