INTERNATIONAL SCOUTING

There are Scouts in almost every country in the world.  Through International Scouting, there is the opportunity to meet and make friends with our extended family and explore the world.

These opportunities can include going to events such as

There's a whole world out there - waiting to be explored and new friends waiting to meet you!!

I'm Jane, the new ACC International for Warwickshire.  I see my role as being here to help you include International things in every aspect of your programme, meeting nights, weekends, summer camps or trips abroad... if you want to have a chat about International stuff, give me a call!  I certainly don't promise to have all the answers, but I'll try to help or find them for you and between us, I'm sure we can come up with something fun and exciting for you to include.

International Opportunities
The August 2010 list of international camps and events in the UK and overseas is available here
Don't forget, there are a lot of International camps held every year in the UK - these are a great starting point if you've never organised a trip abroad but want your Scouts to have the chance to meet Scouts from all over the world.

International Links

The International Links scheme is a "match-making" scheme, where both groups and individual Scouts from all over the world can make contact and establish a friendship, many of which will go on to last a lifetime.  You can register at www.scouts.org.uk/intlinks or download the International Links factsheet here.

JOTA / JOTI

The 53rd "Jamboree on the Air" and 14th "Jamboree on the Internet" will take place on 16th and 17th October.  More information can be found at www.jotajoti.org/community/.  It's a great opportunity to chat to Scouts all over the world without leaving the comfort of your computer.

22nd World Scout Jamboree, Sweden, 2011

We wish the 36 young members of the Warwickshire Unit - "BRITISH BEARWAYS" and the 4 leaders, Andy Shorter (Unit Leader), Will Addison, Tony Marsella and Jane Newbould, every success with the fund raising and training events that are now taking place.

Warwickshire also has a large number of members of the International Service Team for the Jamboree.  Well done to all of you for being selected... see you in Sweden!

For anyone thinking of planning a visit to Sweden next year, Day Visitor tickets to the Jamboree are now on sale at www.worldscoutjamboree.se.  Don't forget you will need to complete the Travel Abroad documentation if you are organising a trip for your group or unit.

Visits Abroad
If you are planning an overseas visit, please let me know as soon as possible!!  The completed Travel Abroad (TA) form and supporting documentation must be submitted at least 2 months in advance of visits in Europe, or at least 6 months in advance for visits outside Europe. The same documentation is required for day visits.  If you are thinking of organising something, then I can try and put you in contact with someone who has had a similar experience - and hopefully help you avoid any nasty surprises!

Funding Opportunities

Cost is one of the main reasons cited for not organising International trips.  Whilst it can be an important consideration, it shouldn't be a barrier to our Scouts having such opportunities.  There are opportunities available, as well as fundraising possibilities, you just have to look for them...

County International Fund
Groups and individuals participating in International Scouting events overseas, or hosting foreign Scouts in Warwickshire, are strongly encouraged to apply for support from the County International Fund. Interaction with foreign Scouts is an essential requirement, but surely that's one of the main reasons for International trips. Applications must be submitted at least 6 months before the event takes place - give me a shout for more information.

There are a number of other funds and grants available for visits abroad - again, contact me for details.
