Offering Adventurous Activities


• There are lots of activities that can be provided properly and safely by Leaders using their training and imagination, but some adventurous activities also need specialist skills (i.e. An Adventurous Activity Permit).
• Two factsheets are available, which are designed to help Members identify the rules and guidance that relate to a particular activity, when it is either a Scouting activity, or an activity led by people from outside Scouting.

Scout Led Activities Index (Factsheet FS120084)

 

The index table contained in this factsheet covers activities when they:

• Are led by people in Scouting;and
• Involve people in Scouting

The activity table indicates:

• POR Rules relating to the activity
• Further guidance (factsheets & assessment checklists)
• If a Scouting Permit is required
• If Extra Third Party Insurance is necessary
• If Notification to the Scout Information Centre is required

The steps required to run Scout led activities are:

1. Check POR rules
2. Check factsheets
3. Check if Permit is required
4. Check whether further insurance is required
5. Check whether HQ needs notifying
6. Complete a Risk Assessment (Factsheet FS120000)
7. Appoint a Home Contact (Factsheet FS120078)

8. Arrange to keep "In Touch" (Factsheet FS120075)

Commercially Led Activities Index (Factsheet FS120086)


The index table contained in this factsheet covers activities when they:

• Are led by people outside Scouting;and
• Involve people in Scouting; and
• Involve at least one person below the age of 18; and
• Take place in the United Kingdom

The activity table indicates:

• POR Rules relating to the activity
• If an AALA Licence is required
• Minimum NGB Qualification for non AALA activities
• If Extra Third Party Insurance is necessary
• If Notification to the Scout Information Centre is required

The steps required to run externally led activities are:

1. Check POR rules
2. Check whether AALA license is required
3. If not, check NGB qualifications of those running the activity
4. Check that the provider has personal liability insurance
5. Check whether further insurance is required
6. Check whether HQ needs notifying
7. Complete a Risk Assessment (Factsheet FS120000)
8. Appoint a Home Contact (Factsheet FS120078)
