Group Scout Leaders and District Commissioners Forums

 The purpose of these workshops is twofold – an opportunity to hear from the UK Chief Commissioner on the work to-date on our vision to 2018,to hear your views and to help shape the future work and support. A short update briefing on Safeguarding will also be presented.

 

The Regional dates for these events are as follows:

 

Scotland (DCs only) – 19 September 2010

North East – 3rd October 2010

South East (West) – 10th October 2010

East of England – 16th October 2010

Greater London 31st October 2010

South East (east) – 6th November 2010

East Midlands – 20th November 2010

South West – 28 November 2010

North West  - 5th February 2011

West Midlands – 12th February 2011

Wales – 5th March 2011

 

 

Attendees will have the option of attending 3 of the following workshops:

 

Engaging With Parents - A creative session providing practical new ideas to encouraging better support from parents / guardians. This session will use real-life examples of how resources, approaches and events can work to recruit quality new adults in a variety of roles locally. The session also highlights the impact of using parents to effectively involve other parents and adults to volunteer

 

Effective Reviews- This session will open up the debates and concerns around the review process,and will enable participants to unpack what they need to do to carry out positive reviews that help contribute to a more supportive working relationship between line managers and those they manage and set positive goals for the future.

 

DC's and GSL's Working Together - This session is designed to focus the thoughts of DCs and GSLs on the partnership between the two roles and the value in developing a strong working relationship.

 

Role of the GSL -The session will help you understand the role, if you are newly appointed and will help you review and refresh your approach to the role if you have been a Group Scout Leader for some time. Using practical and real examples and input from other Group Scout Leaders we will look at six key areas that will help to make you more effective, your role more enjoyable and your leaders feel better supported.

 

Please note that the session content will be able to be delivered at either at an entry level for those who are new to the role or at an advanced level for those who have been post a while.
